ABOUT JUA STUDIOS
Jua Studios is a Nairobi based furniture and woodworking studio rooted in craftsmanship, intention, and warmth. The name Jua is a Swahili word meaning sun. It represents life, growth, energy, and warmth. Just like the sun sits at the center of daily life, Jua Studios believes furniture should be at the heart of a home, grounding spaces and bringing people together.
At Jua Studios, we work primarily with solid, locally sourced woods chosen for their strength, beauty, and longevity. Our core wood types include mahogany for its durability and rich grain, mvule for structural pieces that require exceptional strength, mango wood for its character and sustainability, and cypress for lighter furniture and interior elements. Other woods we use include Meru oak, White oak, Mukui, Muringa, Sudanese and Elgon Teak. Each wood is selected based on its purpose, environment, and how it will age over time.
Every piece at Jua Studios is custom made from start to finish. Our process begins with understanding your space, needs, and lifestyle. We then translate that into thoughtful designs that balance function and form. Once the design is approved, the wood is carefully prepared, seasoned, and worked on by skilled local artisans who bring years of experience and pride to their craft.
Our artisans combine traditional woodworking techniques with modern tools to ensure precision, strength, and refined finishes. From joinery to sanding and finishing, every step is handled with care and attention to detail. We prioritize finishes that enhance the natural beauty of the wood while protecting it for everyday use.
